The U.S. patent system touches the lives and affects the work of every person and business across the country, but it is also highly technical and difficult to understand. It can shape the direction of innovation and commercialization—in helpful or harmful ways—since high-quality patents can be an asset for companies bringing new ideas to market while low-quality patents or imbalances in the system create barriers to innovation, competition, and access. But for something this important, the patent system can be very complex and inaccessible. This Patent Quality Week, we are setting out to demystify the system and explore what it means and why that matters—for us and our policymakers. Tune in from June 6 to 10 to learn more about the patent system and how we can refine it so all entrepreneurs, all innovators, and the broader public are the focus of balanced policies built for quality and progress.
